Drip coffee machines contain a filter basket filled with medium-grind coffee through which hot water slowly drips. As water passes through the grounds it extracts oils and soluble particles before funneling down into a carafe. Drip coffee is light, clear and slightly acidic with subtle floral and fruity notes compared to the heavier mouthfeel of the French press. This fast convenient method produces the “classic” American cup of coffee associated with most home machines and office coffee pots.
